Table Tennis Players Qualify for Olympics

Congratulations Lily, Timothy and Ariel for qualifying to represent Team USA in table tennis at the Summer Olympics 2012 in London. These three Olympians trained at the Indian Community Center (ICC) in Milpitas, CA, and it is the first time in history where three players qualified from the same table tennis club.

Best of luck to them in London!

Golden Temple – Amritsar, India

Harmandir Sahib, commonly known as the Golden Temple, is an important Sikh gurdwara located in Amritsar, in the Indian state of Punjab. The temple was constructed in 1764. Devotees visit not only to worship, but also to volunteer for maintaining the site. The temple also provides free meals to visitors, which number 40,000 per day.

Local economic growth has lead to an increase in pollution in Amritsar. As a consequence, the Golden Temple no longer shines the way it once did, as shown in this photograph I have taken when I visited:

Using a bit of Photoshop, I have worked to clean up the Golden Temple to showcase it as what it used to look like. The gold and marble has been cleaned and the water has been purified. In addition, electric cables have been removed.

Fusion Beatz Holi Celebration 2012

Happy Holi! Holi is the festival of colors, which signify a day when we all can all forget our differences and just have fun. People celebrate covering each other in color to bring the realization that we are all one. I photographed Fusion Beatz’s annual Holi celebration. The event had colors, food and Bollywood music, and was very fun to photograph. Fusion Beatz is a fitness center with six Bay Area locations that engages customers in high energy Bollywood dance for a strong cardio workout.
