Golden Temple – Amritsar, India

Harmandir Sahib, commonly known as the Golden Temple, is an important Sikh gurdwara located in Amritsar, in the Indian state of Punjab. The temple was constructed in 1764. Devotees visit not only to worship, but also to volunteer for maintaining the site. The temple also provides free meals to visitors, which number 40,000 per day.

Local economic growth has lead to an increase in pollution in Amritsar. As a consequence, the Golden Temple no longer shines the way it once did, as shown in this photograph I have taken when I visited:

Using a bit of Photoshop, I have  worked to clean up the Golden Temple to showcase it as what it used to look like. The gold and marble has been cleaned and the water has been purified. In addition, electric cables have been removed.

Dosti (Friendship)

Dosti is the Hindi word for friendship. I was watching the lake as the fish was playing with the duck. Wherever the duck swam, the fish followed. It reminds me of the song “Ye dosti hum nahi todenge”.
